                                LEADERSHIP IN TEAM WORK
Two heads are always better than one. And when it comes to a team or group then their are many heads working together. If a team has coordination and the people are like minded then the task assigned to them is performed with perfection.
How ever there are some people who do not like to get suppressed by others and they do not want to work under others but still love to work in team. This is usually the behavior of those people who are social but have dominating personalities. They do not have attitude problem. They like to interact with others, love to make friends but still don't want others to over come their position.
This is situation where one has to remain self satisfied and keep others happy too. So for this the best way is to become the leader of your team, no matter what ever task is given to you. Becoming a leader doesn't mean that you have to declare your self as a leader. However, it means that you have to take big challenges over to your self and take up the main responsibilities.
It does sound as if its a big idea but, in actual it is not. Why? the answer is simple, you are a part of team. We know one thing that whether we are in possessional life or student life, one person is always a BOSS. He/ she may be as a teacher/ instructor or as a manager. You can not deny the existence of that boss as long as you want to stay as a part of the office or institute.
So how to work in a team as a dominant member?

    • LEARN TO COMMUNICATE:Keep relation with the boss (instructor or manager) in such a way that you may not find any difficulty in expressing and communicating your opinions in the decision. The sillier is the one who butters. Now a days, the people are well-educated and sensible enough to understand who is praising to get promotion and respects in the real way. Good relations are created when the performance of work is excellent. Keep in mind that these relations are not meant for seeking promotion, they are just to lead your own team comprising of the members equal to you.Boss has NO concern with it.For example, if your manager makes a team having five members and directs you how to do a task, and you have an easier and better option to do some thing, you may tell your manager that you can do it that way too.
    • OMIT "I" ATTITUDE: Leadership dreams sink like ship if you have " I" attitude. This is because the people will get irritated by your bragging all the time and they'll be offended. Instead of accepting you as a leader, they'll start planning to change the  group member. It is a quality of a good leader that he uses the word WE, while showing progress in the task etc.
    •   COOPERATE WITH MEMBERS: Cooperation and collaboration is a major condition in working as a team. If your attitude is such that you cooperate with those with whom you are close and not those with whom your mind doesn't match, then it simply means you'r not working as a team. When there is no team, there is no leadership.
    • DON'T GET PERSONAL TO ANY ONE: Favoring some one on the ground that he/she has got BMW or that person always wear branded shoes and degrading some one because he puts yellow tie on indigo shirt or she attends parties in joggers, is the most most you can do unfair with your team. Never base your opinions on the personal basis when it comes to work.
    • HELP EVERY ONE: If you will help your team members with all your heart and will listen  to them attentively, soon you will find your self encircled with the team people in spare time, they will start talking by keeping more eye contact with you rather than the others. And this is the point, where people will start liking your ideas and accepting your directions happily.
    • BE THE FIRST ONE TO ACCEPT: If you are given any direction from the instructor or the manager, when every one is in state of dissonance whether to accept the responsibility, be the first one to accept it. After accepting, now the command is in your hand to decide how to divide the task. This is the key point to become a leader in a team.
When you accept the responsibilities willingly and firstly, it helps you not to work under any one else. When you will take responsibilities, your boss will surely consult you in making the draft of the plan. Secondly, you will become the one who will distribute the work load among others, so the others will come to you to take directions and guide lines. If you will cooperate with your members, and guide them sincerely, you will be the one to save your team from crushing into pieces or sinking like a ship and will prove your self to act as a leader in team work.

HOW TO BE A STRONG DEBATER

It is verily said that nothing is impossible in the world. We see politicians, journalists, analysts etc, speaking with great confidence to win the arguments against those who do not agree on what they talk about. Many students are inspired by such speakers and desire to debate on their institute level.
It is seen that different types of institutes organize declamation contests on inter and intra level, in order to enhance the speaking power of the students, build confidence level and to open the inter mingled knots of confusion on certain points in the young minds. Such opportunities help the students to percept various issues the way they want and to explore different views of the same point.
There are many students who like to participate in such contests but because of anxiety and fear of forgetting the points they want to speak or becoming the fun in front of audience makes them not to express their thoughts. Here are few important steps following which may help the person in delivering his thoughts in a better way.

    •  BE PATIENT: First most important thing to debate on a point is patience. As you must know that your opponent is not your friend. Though he is not your enemy, but still you must realize that he is a person who is speaking against your view points. You have to prepare your self to hear any argument from him, which you may not like. But losing temper in such situation is never sensible.
    • BE PREPARED: Debating over an issue, showing your view points and convincing the people is not  a piece of cake. You have to be prepared by gathering information on the topic. The best way is that besides getting the knowledge about your view point, you should gain some information on what possible points could be spoken against you. When such points are collected the answers to them should also be designed carrying equal weight.
    • MIRROR PRACTICE: In order to judge your self, e.g, gestures, facial expressions and speaking style etc, the mirror practices are essential for the speaker. The speaker must address in front mirror many times in order to pin point the weaknesses and to correct them.
    • BE WATCHFUL OF TIME: Time duration matters a lot in declamation contests. He who manages to deliver the views in time limitation is successful speaker. Usually two bells are rung. The first one alarms the speaker that only one minute is left. When the first bell rings, the speaker must prepare him self to wind up the speech with in next 30to 40 seconds. One thing is commonly observed, that the speaker usually gets rattled when the first bell is rung and gets confused. To avoid this, keep a bell with you and while doing mirror practice, use the bell in between the rehearsals.
    • CHOICE OF POSITION: Now that the practice phase is completed, the next is delivering phase. It is the time when you have to appear before a big crowd. The choice of position is very important in case when their are many opponents. If the opportunity is not given then you have to put maximum effort to leave a lasting impression on every one's mind. How ever if the option is given to you to choose the position of your turn , its well and good. It is preferred to appear either as an opener or the last debater. If you appear as first contestants, you must know that every one will be fresh at the beginning of the session and you will be supported by a big crowd. And if you decide to be a last speaker, then it will be advantageous as you will stay in the mind of the judges. But again only powerful debater can take maximum advantage of the position.
    • CONTEST MANNERS: One must keep in mind that being at such contests needs to follow some etiquettes. Always sit on the seat alloted to you. If you are sitting in people, it does not matter much but way of sitting matters a lot when sitting area is on the stage. There are many people watching you including the chief guest and judges. So sit confidently and in up right position. Do not put one leg over the other. Do not look at left and right too much. And don't make extra movement of arms and hands. Sit relaxed and fresh.
    • STANDING AT THE ROSTRUM: When your name is called, walk straight to the rostrum. And while taking steps towards it, prepare your self by saying that finally the time has come when you have to tell people what you know. After standing at a certain position, before speaking, adjust the mike according to your height and pitch of your sound.Make sure that the mike must be neither too close that your voice echoes nor too far that people may not hear your voice.
    • BEGINNING THE DEBATE: Beginning the debate is an art. According to me, beginning should be unique. One thing must be kept in mind that keeping written material means your kicking your winning trophy in trash by your self. If you are competing for the position do not take paper with you. Now the question is how to make the beginning unique? This can be done by creating a scene. Once I had an opponent who came to the rostrum, PUNCHED it hard and said, " This rostrum will break today....", by this he gained attention of the whole  hall. Once I opened my topic by taking paper with me and TEARING it off into two pieces and saying these lines, " What is this? My text? with a duration of three to four minutes? Text can't bound me, I am free to speak what ever I want". Words or actions like this attract the listeners.
    • WHAT IF ANY POINT IS FORGOTTEN: While addressing the audience , if you forget any point, DON'T STOP. It gives a bad impression on listeners if you get stuck over the point and start thinking. Just skip that particular line and shift towards the next paragraph or statement.
    • ADDRESS THE VIEWS WITH COURTESY: To win the debate doesn't mean that you have to get rude to your opponent. Address your opponent politely and also address to the chief guest by using the words RESPECTABLE SIR/MADAM or HONORABLE CHIEF GUEST etc.
    • CONCLUDING DEBATE: Finish your debate with the saying of some philosopher or writer and summarize the whole discussion as a conclusion. In the end don't forget to say THANK YOU.
By following these few tips you can improve to be a good speaker,a strong debater and increase the possibility to win the contest. However one thing must be kept in mind, winning or losing the race does not matter much. What matters is that you expressed the way you percept the things, you told everyone that with what angle you see the world.

      RECYCLE, REUSE, REDUCE

"Recycle, Reuse, Reduce" ,These three words are often seen written on the shopping bags. Not the shopping bags of polythene but those made of paper, jute etc. These are not just words from dictionary but they show public service message. A message to save the planet in the future.
For the last few decades it has been seen that the researchers have been trying to demise any mean by which the pollution can be controlled. Pollution is a global issue and efforts are being made to over come this problem, as it has become havoc for man kind. Not only the existing human beings are facing critical situations but because of current scenario the future of the up coming generation is also in danger.
There are various factors to cause pollution, like factory waste dumps, burning of fuel, throwing harmful chemicals in oceans and seas etc etc.One of the factor causing pollution is the use of polythene bags. Most of the people are unaware about the fact that there is no recycling process of the polythene bags.
These bags got banned in the first world countries many years back and they switched to the paper bags. Though the paper bags can be recycled and  reused but they have one big problem The cutting of trees so frequently is rising the temperature of the earth. Deforestation also have other harmful aspects like, major cause of drought, emergence of various diseases, decline in natural beauty etc. Hence it was not considered a suitable utility to carry grocery and other things. Though the use of polythene and plastic bags is still a common practice in most of the countries.
Now a days the ENVIRONMENT FRIENDLY PAPER BAGS are being tried to introduce to reduce the pollution. Such bags could be of different materials. For example, they may be made of cotton, jute, canvas etc.
The idea behind this effort is:

      • To avail the utility from a single bag repeatedly,  which is REUSE.
      • When the bag is worn out, it is trashed for RECYCLE.
      • As the bags will be used over and over their will be not much dumping, which is REDUCE.
By the use of Eco Friendly Bags, less energy will be consumed in production, more utilization can be generated, percentage of contribution can be made in some how controlling the pollution etc. The environment friendly bags are easy to use as well and have greater capacity to carry the grocery.
Almost all  the countries have banned the use of the plastic and polythene bags but still the third world countries use them. Efforts must be made to properly the the usage of these bags. There is a strong need to bring awareness among the people to discourage them to use the plastic bags and go for the Eco Friendly Bags.
The awareness can be generated by adopting following means:

      • There is a need to raise a strong campaign  to introduce the Environment friendly bags.
      • Print and paper media must be used for advertisement of these bags.
      • The stores and shopping malls must replace the plastic bags with the Eco Friendly bags.
      • Tax percentage on the production of polythene and plastic must be raised.
By the use of Eco Friendly Bags, we can save our present healthy environment and can also clean the planet to make it a better place for the coming generations to live in and enjoy.

                WHAT PAK FAZAIA GAVE ME?
I stepped in at the age of 5 and said Fazaia good bye when I was 18
But memories are still with me
                                Though I know, time flew.

The place where one spends the past can not be forgotten. And same if one has gained much from that place. I miss my school and college life a lot and i would like to share few good memories with you.
I got admission in PAF (Pakistan Air Force) Inter College Chaklala now called Fazaia Intermediate College Chaklala in 1995. I was a child of five years when I started studying there. In those 14years, I learnt so much and gained a lot of experience. I can not even capture it in ink.
      Main Building
      Fazaia ICC
At the very first step, since the beginning, sincere and loving natured teachers had always been there to guide me. I remember, Madam Shameem was the first teacher to encourage me to participate in speech competition when i was in first grade (1996). The topic was " My Favorite T.V Program", and i stood FIRST.
Starting from that, I further participated in class two and three as well under the direction of Madam Khaula and Madam Yasmeen. After that my interest was diverted towards arts.Though I myself had never been good at art work but i was surrounded by many talented students who were always there to help me. Every year, for around 10 years, Fazaia gave me opportunity to participate in competitions on National as well as International level (Japan, Italy, South Asia, England etc). And the credit of big support goes to Mrs. Nayeer and Madam Shagufta.
Though I had grown up playing cricket, base ball, basket ball and all but a proper platform was given by my institute in 2005. Every year inter-house sports competitions were conducted. We had four houses named, Iqbal (mine) Minhas, Raffique and Munir house.
Fazaia gave me honor to represent my house as a basket ball captain. It was a dream come true as this game's spirit runs in our family. Though we as a team could not win the final but stood runner ups as we qualified for final by winning semi- final. Sir Sattar was our coach. Under the direction of our House Leader Madam Rubina I participated in Quiz and Speech Competition in which i stood second and third respectively.
After that I entered into College, where I was supported by a big list of teachers. In November 2006, 1st year, I participated in EXTEMPORE DECLAMATION CONTEST. I represented my Fazaia Inter College Chaklala in Fazaia College E-9 Islamabad and by the grace of God, got 3rd position from North Zone B competitors.
Then came my last year in Fazaia where great teachers like Madam Sajeela, Madam Sabeen and Sir Naseer became the source of guidance. My own Institute arranged a BI LINGUAL DECLAMATION CONTEST with two phases. I spoke first day on serious topic and got qualified for the final round. In phase I delivered humorous speech and stood 1st out of 18 competitors.
Soon after Fazaia selected me to participate in FEDERAL BOARD DECLAMATION CONTEST where I faced 25 competitors under the headship of  Madam Sajeela. Though I couldn't to score any position that time, but my institution always taught me the message of patience. I learnt from Fazaia, not to lose heart on failures.
The last opportunity was given to me by my institute was to participate in Declamation contest at Government Post Graduate under the guidance of Sir Naseer and Madam Rukhsana. And by the grace of Almighty Lord I stood 1st.My feelings were unexplainable as I prayed to God to let me save the dignity of my Fazaia.
One thing I always loved about my institute was that it gave us pen to write with freedom. Every year a student's magazine, named "KAWISH" was published. I wrote for five years in KAWISH.
Memories can never be forgotten Thats why they are called memories. Fazaia gave me an endless list list of beautiful experiences which i can feel happy to share. Spending 14 years in Chaklala Base as a student was also great. The life of Pakistan Air Force was disciplined. We also used to get a little information about the exercises of our forces, statements of commander, arrivals of foreign delegation or military troops from Japan, Korea etc.
Fazaian's anthem of institution was "HUM HAIN PAK FAZAIA KAY SAHAHEEN", which was sung in functions. But every day in morning assembly the national anthem was played and we used to sing in chores with it.
I am thankful to my Allah, for making me part of such

            DOES SCHOOL STIFLE YOUR
                                           CREATIVITY?

A Speech That I wrote for My  6th Grader Cousin

School is the place where we spend about 50% of the time and even when return home we talk about teachers, friends, do home work and pack the bag and go to sleep to get up on time for the next day. It means that school is HALF HOME.
We usually talk about going to market to buy colorful charts, oil pastels, crayons, activity sheet etc etc. We also come home and tell our parents about the sports week, essay writing competition, inter house declamation contest or swimming gala. What are all these?
Aren't these the activities that we do to enhance our creativity? If the answer is YES, then it means i have already won the argument. I am standing at the rostrum, delivering some thing to my fellows, expressing my views on a topic. What is this? Its a creative effort.
So who can say that school stifles the creativity? Its a very wrong impression that schools are the factories of producing book worms. I totally disagree with this. Its the motto of every school that besides covering academic course they aim to conduct number of activities which not only improve the skills of the students but also give opportunity to build creativity and enhance confidence level. Such activities are good enough to let the students learn different things and gain new experiences.
Competitions are the best source of developing creativity. As it generates the encouragement in students to  come up with new and good ideas to compete the fellows. More over the color days help developing aesthetic sense. In the memories of great national heroes and to tell the importance of historical events, the functions are conducted by which enable the students to get awareness about their past. Cultural and social performances help the students to learn about their customs, values and much more.
So my dear fellows, after presenting the wordy picture of all such activities conducted in school to enhance the creativity you can better judge that the schools are not at all the reason to interrupt the process of creativity. Rather than stifling the creativity, schools are meant to improve the skills, to build the confidence, to polish the talent and to sharpen the mind to think over creative ideas in a positive way.

A HEALTHY HEART KEEPS THE BODY HEALTHY AND AWAY FROM DISEASES

It is an Arabian proverb, " He who has health has hope and he who has hope has everything". God has created us, the most superior amongst all. We are blessed with hands, feet, proper body structure, eyes to see, tongue to talk and much more. These are all the blessings of Lord.
For man, no matter from what creed he belongs, the greatest showering of God is life, and life goes on, in fact runs, even jumps when the heart is healthy, happy and free from diseases.Heart is a vital organ of the body. Our mental, physical, chemical and physiological activities are dependent upon the condition of our heart.
Its centralized importance is as simple as the importance of mother to her child, king to his state and dolphin to the light. But the question here arises that are we taking care of our heart the way it deserves? Are we possessive about the health of our heart the way we should be?
The answer is NO. But WHY?
This is because the man can never be perfect at any thing. He can never understand the value of some thing until its gone or lost. Ill heart leads to the restlessness of body, sickness of soul and depression of mind.  Refuse to be ill . Never let the people know that you have been suffering from certain health disorder. Use your will power to deviate your attention from the problems your facing. Never own the pain to your self.
Now  here i would like to mention few factors, responsible for the sickness of our precious present, heart:

      • Smoking is considered as one of the major factors behind disorders of heart. It is the enemy to heart and leads to serious heart diseases like cancer etc.
      • The other important factor is related to imbalanced diet. Eating in excess or below the body requirement both are dangerous.
      • Lack of sound sleep also lead to heart problems. The body needs to relax and proper sleep of 8 to 10 hours is advisable.
      • Laziness is also enemy of heart. Absence of physical activities also affect heart's performance.
      • Usage of prohibited drugs is also harmful for heart. etc
Now a days all these things are taken as luxury but just think for the moment, are these things amusing us in real sense? I don't think so. In my book these things simply lead us to the path of unbalanced, unhealthy and unhappy life. The satisfaction of heart is obligatory and heart can be satisfied when we have peaceful state of mind with healthy body and soul.
Heart is considered as the symbol of peace, love, unity and kindness but before showing such emotions we have to love our heart, we must be kind to it and keep it in peace, so that it may become able to live for others.
       Always remember,
"THE FIRST WEALTH IS HEALTH. HEALTH LIES IN LABOR AND THERE IS NO  ROYAL                                                                ROAD TO IT BUT THROUGH TOIL"
             YOUR SOLDIER NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT

Being a soldier's girl is never easy. Being the army spouse is toughest job in military. Long deployments, less contact, absence on important events, spending birthdays alone etc etc. This is what every soldier's girl have to face. But important here is,how to act, react and respond to such situations.
In beginning of relationship with a soldier, you may find difficulties in accepting the way things are but its human nature that one adjusts in the environment with a passage of time. A soldier's job is very tough, so he needs a companion how may try to understand the nature of his profession, rather than fighting around all time. Your soldier needs your support to break the obstacles and move on, to build a successful career.

Here are few tips you may apply to make things go smooth, healthy and happy:

      • TRY TO ACCEPT CHALLENGESthough it is too difficult to accept any thing promptly but in some cases you have to do it and even if you are not willing, you have to show you are happy. For example, for the last two months you had been planning programs to spend time together on a one month leave, but suddenly you get to know that your soldier has got the orders to command a new post in some other city for three more months, then at that time you have to keep your nerves in control and tell the guy that his career is prior, you can implement your plans after three months. This will keep his morale high, and he would surely be able to work in a better way.
      • DON'T COMPLAINT ALL THE TIME: Saying that you miss him is fine; but complaining about the sufferings for being alone all the tirme; is not sensible. Complaints may make your soldier feel guilty for not giving you proper time.
      • MAKE HIM FEEL SPECIAL: You must realize that your soldier has been under tough duty all the time. So make him feel special,  to make him feel out of the military  world, he lives in.The best way to do this is, by discussing the things of his interests like, sports, cars, latest gadgets etc.
      • LISTEN TO HIM: Military guys hardly talk about their routine matters, but if he shares some thing, do listen to him. It doesn't mean that he wants your advice, he would share because he wants someone to listen to him.
      • TAKE CARE OF HIS MENTAL RELAXATION: Soldier's job is very tough. It takes a lot of his brain. More over, he may spend days in isolation during his deployment. All you have to do is to plan some good activities to relax his mind. For this the best way is to design an activity book with interesting questions, creative writing topics etc.Yes, It works.
      • BE ENCOURAGING: Always motivate your soldier and make him feel that you are proud of him. Use supportive and encouraging words which will be an asset for him to lead and move forward. If he tells any obstacle or failure, try to tell him that he would succeed soon and tell him not to be worried. Statements like "EVERY THING WILL BE ALRIGHT", "DON"T LOSE YOUR HEART.SOON THINGS WILL BE FIXED", "SUCCESS WILL BE YOURS AT LAST" etc will give support to your soldier.
      • ITS GOOD TO EXPRESS THAT YOU WORRY: Not all the time you have to show your self a brave girl who absorbs the worries in no time and move on. NO!!! This is not a right attitude.Remember, after all you are a girl with a fragile heart. Time to time you have to make your soldier realize that you stay worried for his health and comfort. Other wise it will give an impression that you don't care any more.
Its beautiful to be in relation with a soldier. You are always loved and cared. Though this relationship demands compromises but once you understand how to handle situations, you will feel your self happy go lucky.
